He told the Today Programme: “It’s very important to try to make sure that the correct information is available to the public about what happened at the time.
“The impression that was given was of youngsters being chased by police and an accident happening, immediately one to the other.
“I’m still assured that is not what happened, but information emerged of the vehicle and the youngsters in the same street, a different street, shortly before the event.
“That of course then comes into something that should be investigated and looked at independently by the office of police conduct.”
