Tony Blackburn shares hospital update before taking another week off BBC Radio 2

Tony Blackburn, 80, made his return to BBC Radio 2 earlier this month after battling a period of ill health.

However, he is now set to take another week off from hosting his popular show.

Giving his 110,000 Twitter followers an update on his recovery, Tony wrote on Tuesday night: “Saw my specialist today and I’m recovering very well and after this Sunday I won’t have to go into hospital once a day for anymore antibiotics.

“I’m having a week off , then a blood test and all being well that could be it.”

The presenter was quickly inundated with supportive messages, with one fan writing: “You’re my radio hero Tony. I genuinely wish you nothing but the very best.”

Another added: “Wonderful news, but please take it easy and listen to your body x.”

A third fan agreed: “Best wishes Tony thats really good news, Just take it easy don’t rush into things and you will get there,good luck as you are a fantastic DJ and a lovely man X.”

A fourth commented: “Glad you are feeling better Tony, enjoy your week off.”

Tony had been forced to take a break from work when he was struck down with a chest infection, which turned out to be more serious than he had first thought.

The star was hospitalised at London’s Wellington Hospital, and then needed outpatient care along with regular injections.

He delighted listeners when he took to social media to confirm his long-awaited return on May 9.

The broadcaster shared a video of himself looking much healthier as he revealed that he couldn’t wait to connect with fans.

Tony captioned the clip on Twitter: “At last I’m going to be back with you @BBCRadio2 this Saturday for Sounds of the Sixties ‘Live’.”

“I’m delighted to say that I’m making a speedy recovery,” he said.

Tony added that he had read all the “kind” comments as he smiled at the camera.

“I can’t wait to get back with you again.

“Thank you very much indeed for all the lovely messages while I’ve been away.”
